What to wear
This challenge honours the resilience of refugees who often leave with little more than the clothes on their backs. We encourage participants to wear modest Islamic dress, layered over activewear for comfort and practicality.
1. Base layer
- Running leggings: Choose athletic leggings for flexibility and comfort.
- Quality sports bra: Ensure you’re well-supported for active movement.
- Gloves (optional): For protection from mud and rough surfaces.
2. Inner layer
- Moisture-wicking trousers: To stay warm and dry.
- Long-sleeve top: Fitted and breathable, providing an additional layer.
- Tight-fitting underscarf: Helps keep your hair secure under your hijab.
3. Outerwear
- Modest Islamic dress: Wear a full-length abaya, ideally one that holds personal significance, as a reminder of the items refugees often leave behind.
- Hijab or khimar: A securely fitted hijab or khimar.
- Niqab: If you wear a niqab daily, wear it during challenge.
4. Footwear
- Tightly-laced trainers: Suitable for muddy terrain. Avoid shoes with metal spikes or studs. Old trainers ideal.
- Synthetic running socks: Quick-drying and help prevent blisters.
