University-based gathering
Meeting location and dress
Sisters gather at their university Islamic Society prayer room or designated meeting space. This replaces the overnight gathering whilst maintaining the ceremonial beginning. Participants arrive wearing their best abaya and hijab, setting the tone for dedication and commitment.
Preparation session
The evening includes:
- Final briefing on Saturday’s itinerary and safety considerations
- Intention setting through group discussion about refugee experiences
- Practical checks ensuring all rucksacks are properly packed and waterproofed
- Spiritual preparation with collective dua for a meaningful experience
Essential packing checklist
Each sister brings a rucksack containing:
- Full change of clothes (double-bagged in sealed bin bag for waterproofing)
- Sturdy, waterproof footwear and lightweight change of shoes
- Towel for post-assault course cleanup
- Prayer mat and water bottle for wudu
- Any personal medications or emergency items
Early departure preparation
Since there’s no overnight component, sisters confirm:
- They will sleep the night in the clothes they’re wearing
- Dawn meeting time and location for Saturday
- Contact information for emergency communication
- Understanding of the fasting commitment from dawn to dusk
- Transport arrangements if travelling from different areas of London
