How can hijab be kept secure during the physical challenge?

Some participants worry about their hijab becoming unfastened or slipping during crawling, climbing or water obstacles, and worry about losing it in front of others during such an intense physical challenge. What practical solutions help keep hijab secure throughout the event?

Answer

These concerns are common, and there are practical ways to remove the worry while maintaining full modesty throughout the challenge.

A long, one-piece overhead khimar is generally the most reliable option. Unlike a traditional hijab relying on pins and wrapping, it slips over the head and stays in place without adjustment.

There are no pins to dislodge in mud or water, no loose ends to catch on obstacles, and no fastenings that could pose a safety hazard. It also leaves both arms completely free for crawling and climbing.

“Instant hijab” styles work on a similar principle and are worth considering too.

Lightweight polyester blends are the most practical fabric choice, since they dry quickly and remain functional even after water obstacles. A one-piece khimar generally offers better coverage than an amira-style hijab, and wearing an underscarf underneath provides extra peace of mind.

Knowing the hijab is secure allows participants to approach the challenge with full confidence, and focus their energy on its meaningful purpose rather than worrying about modesty.
