Pathways Challenge

Overview

This blueprint helps your charity bring several Muslim women’s groups together for one big, joyful day: a team-based 10K obstacle course, run in modest dress, to raise money for refugees.

The groups might be university Islamic societies, Muslim schools, youth groups or community centres. Each forms a team. Each team trains, fundraises and competes. Your charity holds it all together.

It is a bigger challenge than most. It needs coordination, patience and a good team of its own. But it is simple at heart: sisters, side by side, working together as one.

A word on humility

This is one day. For the women it honours, the journey is not a day, and it is not a choice. Nobody on the course is a refugee for the afternoon.

What we can do is pay attention, stand in solidarity and give generously. Keep that spirit at the centre. It will shape how you brief teams, word your obstacles and talk about the event afterwards.

How to use this blueprint

Read the sections in order the first time. After that, dip in as you need.

  • Planning: start with “Who it’s for and why” and “Choosing the event”.
  • Working with groups: go to “Bringing the groups together”.
  • Fundraising: see “Choosing the cause and fundraising”.
  • Nearer the day: use “Preparing the teams” and “The challenge day”.
