Who it’s for and why
“…and cooperate in righteousness and piety, but do not cooperate in sin and aggression.” (Quran 5:2)
This challenge is for charities that want to work with several groups at once, and for the groups that say yes. Everyone has a part, and the day only works when each part is done well.
Who does what
| Who | Their part |
| Your charity | Chooses the event, signs agreements, sets the fundraising framework, runs registration, safeguarding and the day itself |
| Each group | Forms a team, appoints a captain, trains together and fundraises |
| Team captains | Keep their team informed, gather forms and be the charity’s point of contact |
| Course provider | Builds and manages the course, supplies marshals and first aid |
| Volunteers | Help with check-in, water stations, cheering and clearing up |
Who can take part
Any group of Muslim women and girls that can field a team of 8 to 12 is welcome. Teams can be mixed in fitness, age (within the age rules you set) and experience. No one needs to be an athlete. Everyone needs to want to be there.
Why do it
There are three good reasons, and they work together.
- Solidarity: the course asks teams to move together, in the clothes they pray and live in, and to think of women who make far harder journeys.
- Pride and unity: teams from different groups meet, compete kindly and celebrate each other.
- Funds: every team raises money that does real good for refugees.
The day also shows, simply and visibly, that modest dress and athletic strength belong together. That is a quiet message. Let it speak for itself.
Is now the right time?
Be honest with yourselves before you begin. Ask:
- Do we have a named lead and at least two people to share the load?
- Can we give the groups clear information early and answer questions promptly?
- Do we have the budget for the course, insurance and first aid before any money comes in?
- Have our safeguarding policy and trustees’ approval covered events with under-18s?
- Is there a date that avoids exams, Ramadan and major festivals?
If the answer to most is yes, you are ready. If not, start smaller with two or three groups. A good small event beats a stretched large one.
